About
me

Standing up
and speaking up
for local government

My name is Elizabeth Dennis and I am standing to be your representative on Labour’s National Executive Committee. I am incredibly grateful for all of Nesil Caliskan’s work supporting councillors for many years. As she prepares for new challenges representing Barking in Westminster I wish her good luck, she will be a tough act to follow.

I have been a passionate advocate for local government for many years, leading North Herts Council and making Labour the largest party in a traditionally Blue Wall district.

Despite the challenges to council finances, I have led and supported a team that has delivered local innovation, introducing projects such as our Community Investment Fund and Women's Safety Charter so that everyone in the district has the support they need and feels safe as part of their community.

As finance lead for the District Councils' Network, I was instrumental in negotiating an uplift to the funding settlement, extension to the Household Support Fund, and more support for councils facing hefty Internal Drainage Board Levies.

I have the determination, energy, and drive to stand up for our councils and work with our new Labour government to better support the sector going forward.

Please vote for me when the NEC ballots come out, so that I can get to work supporting you!
